Duties, responsibilities and expected outcomes
Under the overall supervision of the Zoba Health Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Hospital Director, the Senior Nurse Anaesthetist will work as a team with the RH Technical Officer, the senior OR Nurse and the Nurse in charge of the maternity ward to ensure the provision of 24-hr high quality, comprehensive emergency obstetric care; the provision of quality postpartum care for mothers and their newborn; as well as provide anaesthesia for general surgery.
The Senior Nurse-Anaesthetist will provide safe, effective, low- cost anaesthesia to gynaecologic, obstetric and general surgical cases; be responsible for the adequate specifications of required equipment and supplies, and ensuring that all equipment and supplies are maintained in adequate quantities, good working order and at the required level of sterility for infection prevention.
The Senior Nurse-Anaesthetist will ensure the accurate maintenance of client records and participate in the conduct of facility maternal death audits.

,Provides anaesthetic support for the prompt management of complications of pregnancy and labour requiring surgical intervention
,Provides anaesthetic support for the prompt management of clients undergoing general surgery and orthopaedic surgery
,Participates in monthly meetings of the hospital management team by compiling and analysing client records for the improvement of quality of anaesthetic support
,Contributes to the creation and sharing of knowledge by conducting on-the-job training for the provision of quality anaesthetic support services
Job requirements
Certified Nurse Anaesthetist
,At least 5 years experience in surgical obstetrics, general and orthopaedic surgery
,Fluency in oral and written English. Tigrinya or Arabic proficiency is a preferred addition
,Personal qualities such as leadership, initiative, adaptability and sound judgement
,Ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds
Type of Employment
Fixed term contract of one year with option to renew for another year subject to satisfactory performance
