UNV Agricultural Promotion Specialist

UN Volunteers is currently accepting applications for a UNV Agricultural Promotion Specialist post with the Association for Silkworm Breeding and Mulberry Growing of Shangcheng county (ASBMG). The mission of ASBMG is to reduce poverty and increase the poor farmers' income by providing local farmers with technical guidance, services and training in silkworm breeding and mulberry growing. Located in Henan Province, Shangcheng county is a state identified poverty-stricken county.

This assignment will be located in Xinyang, Shangcheng county, and will be a one-year position. The Agricultural Promotion Specialist will be working under the supervision of the Secretary-General of the Association for Silkworm Breeding and Mulberry Growing of Shangcheng county. S/He will be responsible for the following:

·Assist ASBMG in formulating a five-year strategic plan on the development of silkworm and mulberry breeding and increase production for Shangcheng County.
·Be responsible for providing technical guidance on the breeding of silkworm and mulberry to ASBMG staff and local farmers.
·Work with ASBMG to organize technical training workshops for local farmers in the community on improving technical skills of silkworm and mulberry. According to seasons for silkworm breeding and mulberry growing, provide technical training in towns not less than 6 times in spring, summer and autumn respectively. .
·Introduce at least one new variety of silkworm and mulberry to local silkworm breeding factory and new techniques to local farmers for increasing production of silkworm and mulberry.
·Set up silkworm and mulberry demonstration gardens in Yuji and Sigudun Townships to promote the development of silkworm breeding.
·Undertake additional tasks as required.
·Actively promote volunteerism through services as a UN Volunteer, participation in volunteer activities and advocacy.

The selected candidate must possess the following qualifications:

·A bachelor degree in an agriculture related field; a speciality in silkworm & mulberry breeding preferred.
·Strong professional experience, minimum 5 years, preferably in silkworm and mulberry production.
·Experience with organizing and implementing training workshops.
·Good communication skills.
·Strong sense of responsibility and dedication to poverty reduction.
·Solid English language skills preferred.
· Previous volunteer experience is an advantage.
