UNDP China Office and UNV Country Team works with Beijing International Volunteers Association (BIVA)/ China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchange (CICETE) in selecting recipient units for International and National UNVs serving in China.
Organizations qualified to apply for a UNV are:
· Government organizations (priority to local government organizations)
· Universities, research institutes and other academic institutions
· Civil society organizations including community-based organizations, NPOs, NGOs
· UN agencies (priority to projects with UNV posts)
· Assisted projects by donors
· Highest priority is given to above organizations in the western region of China.
General selection criteria for recipient units are:
· Priority is given to assignments in the western region of China
· Needs in the strategic areas of assistance - poverty alleviation(including participatory development, gender development), market economics, economic related fields, environmental protection (for international/national UNV teams),information communication technology, legal aid for the poor (for national UNV teams), etc.
· Clear strategy of utilizing UNVs and commitment to maximize knowledge transfer and local capacity building, and to sustain activities after UNV services
· Financial and/or goods contributions
These are general criteria, and we are open to work with an organization on their specific needs and situation. Recipient units will be required to prepare and complete a Post Description Form (for International UNVs) or a Terms of Reference (for National UNVs) to submit a formal request.
