Application procedure
For Chinese citizens interested in serving abroad, it is a requirment to submit a completed and signed UNV Personal History Statement form, recommendation forms and academic certificates to Beijing International Volunteers Association (BIVA) to apply for UNV. When your application is appraised by UNV HQ, you will be informed if you are rostered as UNV candidate. Being a UNV candidate implies that you may be seleted for a UNV assignment in any countries around the world. You must be able to make yourself available within eight weeks, should a formal offer be made to you. You must also be prepared to wait on the roster for some weeks, possibly even some months: subject to reconfirmation of availability every six months, your name will be kept on the roster for two years. Please also note that inclusion in the roster does not guarantee an assignment.
For Chinese citizens applying to serve in China, you will be required to submit your CV to BIVA. After appropriate screening, if you are approved, the candidate will be informed and will be on file. If there is an appropriate post, the candidate will be contacted accordingly.
For non-Chinese citizens applying to serve in China, you will be required to submit a CV to UNV office in Beijing. If approved, the candidate will be contacted and asked to fill out a Personal History Statement form which will be sent to UNV Cyprus for further screening. If approved, you will be contacted and informed of the appropriate procedure. When a UNV post arises in your area of expertise, your CV will be submitted (with others from the UNV roster) for their consideration. You may be called for an interview. If your candidature is chosen by the recipient unit, you will be asked to confirm your availability for the assignment. Clearances (technical, government, medical, travel) are then obtained, to enable you to depart for the assignment.
