The
earthquake that struck Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on Aug.16
2003 has killed 4 people and left 164,000 homeless. More than 154,661
homes have been demolished and another 81,507 were damaged in the
quake area. It also cut power and caused a landslide.
Bairinzuo Banner (county) , Ar Horqin Banner and Balinyou Banner under
the administration of Chifeng in the region, were the most seriously
hit by the quake that measured 5.9 on the Richter scale.
The quake has also injured more than 1,000 people, including 60 people
who have been seriously hurt. 406 schools damaged, more than 91,963
students can not go back their schools in time at the beginning of
new term.
It is estimated that the quake has caused 1.38 billion yuan (US$1.68
million) indirect economic losses. It was the most serious earthquake
to hit Chifeng city in 700 years.
Now it is become colder and colder that the earthquake-strike-area
need help in deed. We welcome the donation of quilts and tents with
cotton wadding, food, medicines and chemical reagents, houses construction
and re-building funds.
