BEIJING INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERS ASSOCIATION

In order to further strengthen and develop cooperative relationship with UNV, other United Nations Agencies and governments of the developing countries, and at the same time, meet the urgent needs of human resources in the western part of China, constantly expand exchanges of international human resources, Beijing International Volunteer Association (here in after referred to as BIVA) was then established with the supports from China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

→	Volunteer Program Volunteer Program Work with an emphasis on the implementation and Management of UNV program in China, including both long- and short-term placement of international and Chinese volunteers for work in China and abroad.

→	Volunteer Advocacy and Awareness Volunteer Advocacy and Awareness The promotion of the spirit and support of volunteerism and social service in China at all levels of society.

→	Network and Databases Volunteer Advocacy and Awareness The promotion of the spirit and support of volunteerism and social service in China at all levels of society.

→	Development, Capacity Building and Training To provide HR needs-based development and training, including exchanges, conferences, training, capacity building, and consulting services, especially in service to BIVA's members.

→	Civil Society Advocacy The advocacy and promotion of China's emerging civil society and the domestic and international non-profit organizations serving China's needs in this area.

→	Sector Emphases poverty and unemployment alleviation; development of China’s western region; environmental protection; basic education and health services; gender awareness; legal aid.

The highest decision making body of BIVA is the General Assembly. The Board of Directors is the executing body of the General Assembly which is responsible for formulating the goals, policy and important regulations of BIVA, and making decisions on important issues such as personnel and finance. At present, the BOD consists of one chairman, three vice chairmen and six members. One supervisor is also posted.The secretariat under the BOD is the permanent structure of BIVA, which implements the decisions of the BOD. The secretariat has one secretary general and one deputy secretary general and three functional departments which include department of project management and membership service, administrative office and advocacy & fund raising.
